04 Jun Self-Builders to be Exempted from the CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy)
The Government has drawn up proposals today (15th April 2013) that will mean self-builders are no longer in the firing line for paying the Community Infrastructure Levy – a charge that will now only apply to housing developers.
The CIL is intended to help meet the cost of developing local infrastructure such as schools, roads, health centres etc.
According to the National Self-Build Association, almost one in eight self-builders had been put off building their own home due to the CIL, which in somes cases had added over £30,000 to project costs.
